Canadian and Iranian education methods

Iranian education methods are different with Canadian education. Iran primary school lessons are easy, but after that in high school and university is very difficult. For example, the level of Mathematics which is taught in Iran high school is higher than other countries. Also, it is not possible for all students to entrance to university. the students have to pass a difficult entrance exam for continuing their education. in some cases, they cannot pass this exam for years and they unwillingly go to other Jobs. In addition, in high school studying as a group is not very familiar among the student and instructors. they study more individually.

However, in Canada education system is different. High school lessons are not very difficult which the student cannot deal with that. Also, to entrance to university depends on your request and your desire. Fore example, if a person who gave up his school for years can start again. Moreover, Canada education encourage students to study and research as a group which is important as a useful method. In one word, Canadian education is more successful than Iranian education.

Future Trends

Trends and fads are growing very fast. They influence on all people life. In the next years they would be more different and stranger. As technology is growing fast, it would affect on future trends and fads as well. For example, designing clothes by small colored lights can be a small and simple of future cloths trend. On the other hands companies would have more competitive edge for getting the market and be more successful. They would use all abilities for using new technology on producing new trends. Also they will try to invest more on trends instead of fads. These are just for making more profit. Of course, on future people should be wise for choosing their goods and services but trends would affect people more than these days.

Outdoor Haft-Sin table in Tehran
Haft Sîn (Persian: هفت سین) or the seven 'S's is a major tradition of Nowruz(Nowruz marks the first day of spring and the beginning of the year in Iranian calendar), the traditional Iranian new year. Today the haft sin table includes seven specific items, all starting with the letter S or Sîn (س in the Persian alphabet). The items symbolically correspond to seven creations and holy immortals protecting them. Originally called Haft Chin (هفت چین), the Haft Sin has evolved over time, but has kept its symbolism. Traditionally, families attempt to set as beautiful a Haft Sîn table as they can, as it is not only of traditional and spiritual value, but also noticed by visitors during Nowruzi visitations and is a reflection of their good taste. The Haft Sin items are:
sabzeh(سبزه) - wheat, barley or lentil sprouts growing in a dish - symbolizing rebirth
samanu (سمنو)- a sweet pudding made from wheat germ - symbolizing affluence
senjed (سنجد)- the dried fruit of the oleaster tree - symbolizing love
sîr (سیر)- garlic - symbolizing medicine
sîb (سیب)- apples - symbolizing beauty and health
somaq (سماق)- sumac berries - symbolizing (the color of) sunrise
serkeh (سرکه)- vinegar - symbolizing age and patience
While traditionally incorrect, sometimes a missing Sin is exchanged with another item starting with an S. For example:
sonbol (سنبل)- the fragrant hyacinth flower (the coming of spring)
sekkeh (سکه)- coins (prosperity and wealth)
There is an additional thing in the "Haft Sin" which is Gold fish. Other items on the table may include:
traditional Iranian pastries such as baghlava (باقلوا),
"toot" (توت)- (usually white) berries, naan-nokhodchi (نان نخودچی)
dried nuts, berries and raisins that is called "Aajeel" (آجیل)

My memory of Olympic 2010

Olympic Games 2010 was a great time for people who have living in Vancouver. Also, for me was a good opportunity to participate in some volunteer activities. Through Coastal Church which I have attended regularly, I found out there were different schedules, and they needed volunteer people. So, I choose one and registered online. The Coastal Church provided every day free coffee or hot chocolate for people inside and outside of the church to passerby. During the Olympic festival, every day 3 groups included 5 people in different times went to streets or stations and offered a hot drink to people. On Friday February 22 at 8:00 pm I attended at the church. First, plan`s supervisor explained us how we can work with the machine which we should carry, how changing the tools and cups and other important details such as making hot chocolate and etc. She mentioned that in every group there is a helper who will help others that carry the machine. In one and half hours everything was ready. It was interesting for me and I was excited. I preferred to be helper because the machine was very heavy for me to carry. My group should go on Robson Street and our job would be finished at 12:00pm. Although, it was cold night but many excited and happy people were walking and shouting on the street. It made them happier when they saw they can drink a free hot chocolate. So, we could have a small conversation with different people in different subjects. Attending in this volunteer job helped me to make relationship and start talking to people easier than before, learned some new vocabularies, and now I feel I am closer to Canadian culture than before. I could make new Canadian friends with who we were in the same group. I can keep it as a good memory and valuable experience of Olympic 2010.
